Hole Saws - Diamond Grit

Our Starrett diamond grit hole saws use a diamond-coated cutting edge for clean, chip-free holes in tile, ceramic, glass, porcelain and natural stone – materials that would quickly destroy a standard bi-metal or carbide hole saw. They are ideal for bathroom, kitchen and general installation work wherever a neat hole through a hard, brittle surface is needed. Who they are for: tilers, plumbers, electricians, kitchen and bathroom fitters and DIYers who need to pass pipework, waste outlets, cables or fittings through finished tiled or stone surfaces without cracking them. Unlike a toothed hole saw, a diamond grit hole saw grinds its way through the material rather than cutting with teeth, which is why it leaves a smooth, clean edge on glazed and brittle surfaces. Choosing a size: the range runs from 14mm up to 152mm in diameter. Measure the outside diameter of the pipe, fitting or cable gland that needs to pass through, then choose the nearest size that gives a little clearance. Smaller sizes suit pipe and cable entries, while the larger diameters are used for waste outlets, extractor ducting and similar fittings. Tips for best results: keep the cutting edge cool and lubricated with water, run your drill at a low to moderate speed with the hammer action switched off, and let the diamond grit do the work with light, steady pressure. Starting at a slight angle and then bringing the hole saw upright can stop it skating on glazed tile. Rinse the hole saw after use to clear the slurry and keep the grit exposed.
