Application

Variable-pitch bimetal bandsaw blades in narrower widths are a popular choice for cutting metal tube, thin-wall section, and mixed bundles where vibration control is essential for blade life and operator comfort.

Bandsaw Blade Width: 1/2"

At 1/2" wide, this is the most common general-purpose bandsaw blade width. It tracks reliably for straight ripping, resawing, and gentle curves on mid-size floor-standing machines, and is the default choice for most wood and light metal bandsaw blade work.

TPI: 14–18 TPI (variable pitch)

Variable pitch — minimal chatter on thin-gauge steel, copper tube, and thin non-ferrous sheet.

Keep at least 3 teeth in contact with the workpiece at all times for efficient cutting and to avoid stripping tooth tips. For thin-wall or variable-section material, variable-pitch bandsaw blades reduce harmonic vibration and extend bandsaw blade life.

Bandsaw Blade Length: 899mm

A 899mm bandsaw blade fits compact benchtop bandsaws. These smaller machines are common in hobbyist workshops and light trade use, where work-piece size is limited but the machine is portable and cost-effective.

If your saw requires a slightly different bandsaw blade length, enter your exact measurement in our configurator — we cut bandsaw blades to any length within our range. The loop length is always measured with the bandsaw blade ends joined as they run on the machine.

Choosing an 899mm 1/2" 14-18 TPI bimetal blade

This 899mm bimetal bandsaw blade is 1/2" (about 12.7mm) wide with a 14-18 TPI variable pitch. It is a strong choice for small bandsaws used mostly on tube, box section, conduit and light structural sections.

Teeth spaced between about 1.4mm and 1.8mm keep three or more teeth on walls from around 4mm. The varying spacing reduces chatter as the blade moves between the walls of a hollow section, giving a cleaner cut and less strain on each tooth. For thick solid bar, choose a coarser blade so the gullets can clear the chips.

Bimetal construction means a high-speed steel edge for wear and heat resistance, on a flexible back that copes with the repeated flexing of an 899mm band. The 1/2" width gives the stiffness for straight, square cuts in tube.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between 14-18 TPI and 14 TPI?

14-18 TPI has finer, varying teeth that suit thinner walls and run smoothly through hollow sections. A constant 14 TPI suits thicker, more uniform material.

Why is my tube cut not square?

Check the tube is clamped square to the blade, the blade is correctly tensioned and the guides are close to the work. A blunt blade will also wander.
